The first painting depicting the merciful Jesus was painted at the request of the Savior, following the instructions of Saint Faustina in 1934, in Vilnius. This image is venerated at the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Vilnius.
“Through this image I will grant many graces, so that every soul may have access to them” (Diary of St. Faustina, 570).
Jesus recited the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for Sister Faustina in Vilnius on September 13-14, 1935 as a prayer asking God for mercy for sinners.
“At the hour of death, I will defend as My glory every soul that recites this prayer; or when others recite it for a dying person, a plenary indulgence will be granted in the same way. When this prayer is recited at the bedside of a dying person, the wrath of God will be appeased and His infinite mercy will envelop that soul” (Diary of St. Faustina, 811).
“I desire that the whole world may know of My infinite mercy”
(Diary of Saint Faustina, 687).
Blessed Father Michael Sopoćko, confessor and spiritual director of Saint Faustina, participated personally in the mystery of the revelation of the Merciful Jesus. God entrusted him with the very important role of fulfilling the mission entrusted to Sister Faustina. Father Sopoćko devoted almost his entire life to this work.
In more than two hundred scientific publications, numerous press releases and organized conferences, Father Dr. Michael Sopoćko developed the theological foundations for new forms of devotion to the Divine Mercy, devotion which he zealously promoted through his involvement in missionary work and social activities.
